I bought a pound of this seed to use for a small deer plot. Unfortunately, we have had a terrible drought where I live this year. I only had my garden tiller and a rake to break up the ground and chose a 98 degree day in July when it was so dry the dust choked me and stopped up the air filter on my tiller. Fortunately, it was supposed to rain the next day. I broke up the ground, raked out a few of the weeds, and having no better system, hand broadcast the seed on my little plot. After using the back of the rake to cover the seed I figured I would be lucky to have ANY turnips. After about an inch of rain the next day I came back a couple weeks later and was amazed to find an absolute carpet of tiny turnip plants. We barely got any rain over the next couple months but the plants were tough as nails and continued to grow. Excellent tops and after a while, started to produce turnips. We had a fairly good acorn crop and the farmer next door had soybeans growing so the deer didn't hit the turnips too hard but I sure did! They were the sweetest, softest turnips I have eaten. I was totally impressed with the quality. I will buy some next year for a deer plot but more importantly, for my garden!
